The month of April is Autism Awareness month and tomorrow April 4th, is the Feast day of St. Isidore of Seville, the Patron Saint of the Internet as well as the beginning of Autism Awareness month. I am sharing resources for both today.
Below is a video found on Catholic.org's page onSt. Isidore of Seville. The video talks about the saint of the Internet, but shares the difference between gaining knowledge (especially with knowledge in the palm of our hands) to gaining Wisdom...how we use our knowledge. "While the world has advanced in knowledge and technology, we are lacking in Wisdom", says Fr. James Kubicki, S.J. (Apostleship of Prayer) The video is short, 2 minutes, and easy to watch.
Excellent Video:

The Internet is here and is a major part of today's younger generations. How can we help them develop Wisdom when using the Internet? The answer is not "don't use it"! If our children use the Internet in school and in social life, we need to be there to guide them and lead with good example. Building a spiritual life of prayer and connection with Scripture is necessary.
Prayer & Scripture Apps & Websites
1. prayerprompter.com
My favorite prayer app to use with older students, teens and even adults is Prayer Prompter.
"Prayer Prompter has been designed to enrich your prayer time by providing an easy way to read and reflect on key passages of Scripture and return to them on a regular basis. The first few folders in the top drawer are organized according to the popular ACTS method of prayer. The letters, A-C-T-S, stand for Adoration or Worship and Praise, Confession which includes Repentance and Forgiveness, Thanksgiving or the expression of Gratitude to God, and Supplication which means Petition, Intercession or Requests."

Number 5... saving the best for last! Clicktopray Pray with the Pope! "Click To Pray is the app of the Pope's Worldwide Prayer Network (Apostleship of Prayer). The app accompanies you throughout your day. It connects you with thousands of people who find purpose in praying every day for the challenges of humanity and for the mission of the Church as the Pope proposes in his monthly prayer intentions. Click To Pray offers you three brief moments of prayer each day. You are invited to join the Pope's call to connect your heart with others seeking to serve the mission of Jesus. Together, we make each day different. Live each day with a twist. Click To Pray also lets you share your own prayer intentions for all to pray." BTW...the Pope's Universal Prayer Intention for April 2017: That young people may respond generously to their vocations and consider offering themselves to God in the priesthood or consecrated life. |
Autism Awareness
On another note for April...This is Autism Awareness Month. Yesterday was "Blue Light Day" to raise awareness for Autism sponsored by Autism Speaks.
I would like to challenge Autism Awareness to AutismAcceptance. Our parishes are places to welcome all...for everyone is made in the image and likeness of our God and is "loved beyond all telling!" How can our parishes and classrooms be more accepting? Here are a few links for that:
22 Tips for Teaching Students with Autism
Teaching Tips for Children and Adults with Autism
Your Religious Community - Resources for Parents and Churches.
Speaking of Autism Awareness, would anyone like to join me to walk or run at your own pace in your own space and on your own time? Join the VIRTUAL Autism Walk/Run! There are several Virtual race websites that are for raising money. You can join for various amounts:
http://www.virtualpaceseries.com/portfolio-item/autism-awareness-2017/ . This race is $30 (proceeds to go to Autism Speaks), you receive a bib and a cute medal.
OR you can do this virtual race on April 29th with Syracuse Chapter. This is $17 and again, you get a medal!! Get a group of friends together to share the experience! Or your parish youth group!
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/who-wants-to-race-5k-10k-for-autism-awareness-syracuse-registration-32004391998
If you run/walk the race, send a selfie of you and your medal to post on our facebook page!
Remember, it's not about your time (competitively speaking)...it's time for prayer, awareness and acceptance!
