Faith Formation classes are beginning!
Do you know when the first television commercial was aired and what it was promoting? The first commercial aired on July 1st 1941 during a baseball game on a local New York station. The product advertised was the Bulova watch. The cost for airing the commercial was a mere $4.00, though some reports say $9.00. The commercial was simple...the image of a watch superimposed over a map of America, with the voice over saying "America runs on Bulova time." Since then, the television has g
grown to be a prime source for advertising and because of its successful impact..just think of all the television ads whose jingles you can remember clearly because of the commercial!
Nowadays, commercials can go even further than just the television. Youtube versions can be found for just about every commercial...even ones from the 1960's I have found! The advantage of youtube is the ability to share the video clips via social media.
This year, our diocese is taking advantage of this marketing strategy. The commercial earlier in the year to promote the Sacrament of Reconciliation using the phrase, "The light is on for you" proved to be very successful as churches welcomed many to celebrate the sacrament.
The Office of Faith Formation is now taking advantage of both of these media forms. The commercial spot will air every morning this week and other various times. But you can also help spread the word that faith formation classes have begun and that "The Door of Faith is Open" by uploading or linking the commercial to your website, your facebook and/or your twitter.
